Google publishes list of dates after which Nexus devices will stop receiving updates

If you have a Nexus device or planning to buy one, what made you take that decision? There are many Android smartphones in the market, but why would you choose a Nexus? Maybe your answer will be “because Nexus devices are the first ones to receive an update”. Well, you are not wrong, most of the people buy a Nexus device for the same reason.

However, if you are under the notion that you will keep receiving Android updates forever just because you own a Nexus, then you are wrong. Google has set dates for Nexus devices after which there won’t be guaranteed Android version updates for them.

Google updated its Nexus support page and provided a list of Nexus devices along with dates after which they won’t receive any update. The latest Nexus devices, Nexus 5X and 6P will keep receiving updates till September next year. However, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will get their last updates in October this year.

As far as Android version updates are concerned, a Nexus device receives updates till two years from the date of availability on Google Play Store. Whereas, the security patches are rolled out till 3 years from the date of availability or 18 months from when the last device was sold on Google Store.

Do you own any of the Nexus device mentioned in the list above? Will it be receiving any further updates? Do tell us what you think about it.
